Need help, looking for rubber strips for my M1 Abrams build
I need rubber strip to make the piece that fits between the Armor Reactive Tiles and the tank side.
I was thinking of using black vinyl electrical tape with the adhesive removed.
Any thoughts?
TIA,
Barry

Barry how about some black heat shrink tube cut into strips and glued in place?BarryC wrote:I need rubber strip to make the piece that fits between the Armor Reactive Tiles and the tank side.

I know this sounds crazy but some cheap wiper blades can be used I'd use the thin edge after its carefully cut lengthwise. Nice thing is you can buy them the correct length and will be very durable too.c.rainford73 wrote:Barry how about some black heat shrink tube cut into strips and glued in place?BarryC wrote:I need rubber strip to make the piece that fits between the Armor Reactive Tiles and the tank side.

No, it is just a "flap" to keep sand, gravel and mud from coming up through the gap.
I'm "guessing" it is about .125" to maybe .187" thick. I am sure it is pretty stiff but yet pliable. I figure I need a scale thickness of about .015" to .020". I could use brass sheet but though a black vinyl would give me the thickness as well as the color needed.
I though about windshield wipers but I think they will be too thick. I will have a look though before discounting them.

Barry something tells me that painting a strip of brass sheet and painting it black isn't going to cut it....
With so much realism and detail I think you will find the strips of rubber you desire even if it means getting on a plane flying to a hostile environment and bartering with some unsavory folk in a dark room with weapons drawn

Carl may be onto something there with the heatshrink. As an electrician I've used all kinds of shrink, and there are many different thicknesses out there. You could get a piece of larger diameter shrink tube, then cut it into strips as wide as you need it.
I picked up a set of shrink at O'Reilly"s auto parts that has many different sizes. The pieces are not too long, but I'm not really sure how long you need them. On the plus side, it also comes in handy for wiring problems!

I've seen neoprene rubber sheets for sale on Amazon uk, but they're around 1.5mm thick, by 200mm squared. Maybe thinner versions are out there. This was just a quick check.

Only on high voltage. Anything below 13,800 volts I just use tape.Son of a gun-ner wrote:Bill, why do I get visions of you having one of those signs different trades have on the back of their vans or cars, 'electricians do it with shrink wrap. . . .'capt midnight wrote:As an electrician I've used all kinds of shrink, and there are many different thicknesses out there. Just found a listing on ebay that was not there yesterday when I searched. It is way more than I need 12"x 19.5" but it is only .02" thick.
It is 55A Shore Hardness so it is a little stiffer than I would like but it is black, so I'm going for it!
