Hey dude, are you using the heng long transmitter/ electronics in all your tanks? If so an after market hobby grade transmitter like a turnigy wont work with any of your tanks unless you replace the internals with a Clark/IBU2 / elmod board etc

If your just starting out with HL use their regular transmitter and receiver and just plug in the channel crystal ( 1 thru 9 ) in the transmitter and receiver ( the receiver plug in is in the battery compartment ). You could have up to nine different tanks running from one transmitter. If you want to get into hobby real deep you will have to get multiple transmitters and the receivers that go with them in different frequencies.

machine, if you buy transmitter like Turnigy from tank vendors they will usually program in ER9X for you which is tank specific and it is RTR. Immortal Hobbies, RCTA, Tankbear etc. My latest Turnigy 9XR from RCTA they programmed in the latest version(Anzio) of ER9X firmware and it even has tank specific set-up menu like this:

So in this case, channel 1 is set up as steering (STR), 2 is Motor/Throttle (MTR), 3 is mutli control which has cannon firing (CAN), MG (MGN), Engine Start (ENG) etc. The radio is customize for tanking. 9X/9XR can control up to 16 tanks each, and with the new receiver on 9XR you can do model matching, which means that as long as the receivers are binded and the tanks are on, you can switch control on the fly in the menu on the radio.

I can vouch for Michaels opinion! I use a 9xr from rc tanks Australia too, there well worth it and the tank specific software is great! If you can find scalawag's old post on the 9xr it's great for setting it up, if not I will post you a link dude

BTW, if you don't need model matching (i.e. switch control of multiple tanks at the same time), you can get a DSSS module from Hobby King ($20) and you can use the old 9X or the cheap Hobby King receivers which runs about $10 a pop. Kevin from RCTA also show me how to mod an old Turnigy 9X module for the 9XR, but if you are buying a new 9XR then you probably don't have any 9X hardware lying around that you can re-use.

I think you can also use the OrangeJR Hobby King branded modules and receivers as well on the 9XR but I have so much 9X stuff lying around I don't need to get new ones. I am a bit bias but really RCTA's 9XR package is the way to go for tanking.
