Hi, In English English, ARN'T is short for ARE NOT,
In American English who knows? :haha:
Ain't Isn't a word but Isn't is short for is not. :haha:
This is according to the Bibliography in volume two of the Compact edition of the Oxford English Dictionary.
Because English is a constantly evolving language what the dictionary defines as either proper or not today, tomorrow any improper word through common usage would then become proper, Unlike Latin where such definitions are pretty much unbending.

Was this thread unearthed by the RCTW Gravediggers Association?...jeez!

I ain't got nowt more to say on the subject. Speaking of which how often do you hear that phrase?

"I ain't got no money" etc.

If 'I' haven't got 'no' mon  ey.

This is not the same as:

"I haven't got some money".

Nor is it the same as:

"I have got no money".

"I haven't got no money" is actually saying:

"I have some money".

Don't get me started on:

"I have this like tank, that I like, because it's like a good tank, like, like most good tanks are, like"...never have I ever understood how or why anyone thought that completely decimating the English language in that way was a great idea.

Contagious.

Little Irish girl was in class, and said her Dad saw this silly bugger painting his front door with a tiny wee brush. He said it would take the contagious.
