A had a spare resin 1:16 StuG III hull lying around (Profiline, with a small fault).

I used it as a testbed to make a hull look old and rusted, so I can randomly put this on an RC battlefield.

It just looked so empty!

I have to find something to solve that...

Image
After a quick spray of cheap grey primer I covered the whole with one of my favourite weathering materials: Vallejo Rust Texture!

Image
I added random bits on to the inside simply to make it look more interesting.

Prolly a Rivet Counter's nightmare haha!

After some more Vallejo Rust Texture

Then I added some more color variation using a brush. (AK Rust Primer and Track Primer).

Added some different pigments, trying to use a 'logical' pattern colorwise.

After airbrushing White Spirit over the whole and using a hairdryer to quickly dry it. I wasn't really happy with how the top part turned out...

...but good enough for my purpose.

Time for some hairspray!

After the hairspray I airbrushed Vallejo Primer German Grey on top.

I worked in segments.

And using water and a hard brush I started to get the effect that I was looking for.

If you want to learn more about the 'hairspray technique', Youtube is your friend. It's fast and easy!
