German Mortar

Post by silversurfer1947 »

I seem to have developed this compulsive addiction. I can't stop building/enhancing things for the bad battlefield. The latest is a German 120mm heavy mortar position. I have just finished assembling the actual mortar. It is a Verlinden kit, which was discounted on Black Friday and I could not resist it. I have an idea for the emplacement, but would appreciate any advice on where to get a suitable mortar crew.

The actual price I paid was £17.30, but that was a discounted Black Friday price. Normal price is £20.35. Postage extra

hi all

We are using the 21st Century Toys 1/18 figures for most of our arty guns, because they are articulated and can adopt almost any pose:

Image

i do not know if they are still easy to find though...

and if i can give you a little advice about this Verlineden 12cm GrW42... the legs are soooooooooooooo fussy and frail, that after the pics i uploaded on the Panzodrom thread, they got broken, so now the mortar has these little and useless 'chopsticks' swaped by 2mm brass tube ;D

best regards
Jussek

The 21st Century figures have become almost impossible to find now except for really silly money. I will keep looking. Thanks for the tip about the legs. I will keep them until such time as they get broken, which I guess is inevitable. My mortar edition will not be as nearly as fancy, just an in the field situation.

Yes, the mortar comes with the base plate you see in Jussek's photo. I just did not include it in mine.

I am declaring the mortar finished. It looked too new when I finished painting it, so I had a go at dirtying it down, but I think I overdid it a little. Anyway, I'm not doing it again. Next step is to build the little dioramma to put it in.

There should be a crew somewhere between here and China, but thereby hangs a tale. I found a group on eBay, which I duly purchased. According to my eBay information, they were posted on 8 December. Imagine my surprise when I got a message yesterday from the seller to tell me they did not actually have any :S I was offered an alternative or a refund. To save a lot of hassle, I opted for the replacement. Hopefully it will all work out.
