A BRIDGE JUST RIGHT !

Post by HERMAN BIX »

After going to a couple of days at North Brisbane RC Tank Club, and enjoying the brilliant set up they offer, I could only level one complaint.............the damn bridge they have is only good for a 1/.24th Sherman :/
My Zu Fuss Panther is wider than a Leo 2 :wtf:

So, I decided to build a bridge- and then get over it.!!

Got some thin marine ply.
Found a length of parachute cord that I had from the old days.
Bent the ply into a suitable shape to get a nice hoop and tied off the cord.
Threw the assembly in the pool :O

Let it soak for a day.

Cut some MDF for the side profiles and got them ready for jobs-on.

Used good quality PVA glue along each edge of the ply & secured the MDF sides using countersunk screws and tacks.
Once both sides were secured and dry(took overnight) I let the cord go and "Bruce is your actual cross-gender fath'mum" :haha:
For texture, I dragged out an old hunting bed roll and cut it to suit. The outside has a nice texture that looks like stones.
Glued it on and trimmed to suit.
Stuck a model knife into it to add some spalling.
Got scissors and cut small squares of the mat to use as top edging and fascia around the arch. Stuck on again with good PVA.

Once dry, stuck some non-slip drawer liner to the deck and then painted the lot with matt black automotive spray paint.

Gave that a moment to cure(its not far to the bar at my place) and covered all that in grey self etch primer from a can.

Just enough black to allow shading, the grey is stone like.
All up was just over 4 hours work including drink breaks :shh:

Was in a hurry to get it ready for the coming day so only got a few pics until next meet (I left it up there as a donated structure)

Great build Herman I'm sure they were over the moon with your donation  I made a couple of small bridges myself just for the back yard to give the tanks a run out between shows and battle days, I made them all collapsible to store away in the garage when not in use :D
