Our new battle ground receives not only a military area, also a little village. A church and some other buildings are present; but a barn is still missing. A typical barn for the area eastern Berlin.
I have researched some photos and then were drawings made. A mixed method of construction is the aim; partly a timbering and the long sides with a clap board closed. The barn has a rectangle floor plan and receive a way through in longitudinal direction. The overall size is round about 0,90 m x 0,60 m; in original were this round about 15 x 9 m and big enough, to pass through with some of our vehicles.
For a minimal weight at this size it receives a skeleton from square pine stripes 10 mm x 10 mm. Now to realization; I’ve started with cutting pine stripes and to assemble the first gable side.

Image

Vertical I’ve used additionally wooden dowels from wooden skewers as at my timbered house. This gives more stability.

Image

The first gable side is almost finished.

Image

I decided me to give my gates archways. The necessary bows were saw from a 10 mm thick board.

Image

The parts were drawn, cut and…

Image

…thereafter glued in.

Image

The counter side is also finished.

Image

My precast side parts for the barn reminds at the sides of a child’s bed…

Image

After subsequently assembly of all single parts was the base framework finished; it follows some struts for a better stability.

The material costs for the barn should be so low as far; for this reason were the most stripes made from rests of boards and thick boards.
As described receive the barn at the sides clap boards; at the right side additionally a little annex.
Here now the first pictures from the clap board, view and…

…a bit closer.

Image

As at the original I’ve nailed the boards with little nails; also for a good stability.

Image

The first row is completed,…

Image

…many must follow. Now to the annex; the base framework was also built from square pine stripes.

Image

Image

Thereafter I’ve tested my barn on usability; even my kingtiger fits through.

Image

Some adjustments are still needed; later I will come back to this point. Here once some photos from my test…

Excellent work Hotte.
The Königstiger could always drive straight through the barn and demolish it !
Be a shame to do that though :)

Today’s theme is the roof construction. One roof part consists of two rafters, a stator and the ceiling beam. They were also made from pine square stripes.

Image

Due to the annex are the rafters of the middle roof parts at one side longer; altogether were four roof parts made.

Image

Image

The annex will be a bit adjusted; the complete roof shall later be removable.

Image

Here once all four parts set up; too note is the cutting at the top ends – here will later the ridge purlin mounted. The ridge purlin has a profile from 10 x 5 mm.

Image

At the gable sides I’ll have a roof overhang; therefore were especially rafters at the outsides mounted.

Image

Here is a view from the side, which shows…

Image

…how the roof construction arises. Both gables receive no stators; here were later still doors mounted. All purlins are flush with the upper edge of the rafters.

Until the next time.

After the mounting of the purlins I’ve glued between the rafters foot purlins to receive more stability.

Image

Thereafter receive my annex the clap boards.

Here is the complete annex construction from inside to see…

Image

…and here once for fitting at the main building mounted.

Image

The clap board at the main building was also slowly finished…

Image

…and the roof gables receives a stiffening as timbering construction.

Here once some photos until here…

Also at the counter side were the clap board mounted…
