Freedom Model 1/16 Sd.kfz.2 Kettenkraftrad

Post by lmcq11 »

Got the 1/16 Kettenkraftrad i purchased from eBay China. The model looks very nice and its seems something can be done with the plastic individual tracks for RC conversions. The model is available in 2 versions, with or without the resin figure for about a $25 price difference. The figure is very nice and come in no less than its own tin can for protection and presentation, a nice touch. Also has good decals options. The models sells for about $70 with the figure.

I'm currently waiting on mine, keen to see what you can do with this  (as I'll probably copy you to the best of my ability!)

Thank you for the brief overview and pictures Louis, I was a little apprehensive of what I would receive for the reasonable price of the kit :D I too am waiting for the same bundle as yourself to be delivered, I ordered one a couple of months ago on preorder and it was sent out to me early in December from China, it landed in the UK about a week before Christmas but still waiting for Royal mail to deliver it :/
I bought it in the same mind as yourself to see if converting it to RC would be doable ??? I also have an Andrew's design kettenkrad that I bought a couple of years ago along with their driver and passenger figures but it cost me nearly £350 at the time  so I figured that this kit was worth a shot. The one good thing with the AD kett is it has metal tracks and it's a shame that they are not available separately ( not that I know of anyway ) as they would be rather useful for this kit.
Following along for tips and inspiration as usual

Cheers,Lee.

Hi,

Converting this kit to RC won't be easy. It's quite small and finely molded. The main issue with RC would be to realistically put the driver on the seat and make his arms drive by turning the fork and front wheel... what a challenge.

Comes with visible engine and gearbox under the seat that could be super detailed instead of replaced by an RC gearbox...

The plastic suspension arms are likely too tiny for RC. Need replacement.

Worst case, it makes a nice and cheap 1/16 static kit.

I noticed a small ad on the kit instructions, showing Freedom's next 16002 release. A Kettenkraftrad with a Goliath and trailer...

Has anyone else found excessive amounts of flash on the back of their road wheels?

I think later in the year we should all have a guess at how far this is going go before it disintegrates spectacularly...

I have one coming from China via Aliexpress. It's taking the slow boat. I will check on flash when it arrives. I regret now not buying the version with the figure.
