Grand fathers Royal Navy service WW1 & WW2

Post by Aljones34 »

My grand father George Dalley served on HMS Venetia during the evacuation of welsh guards from Boulogne in May 1940. The ship was badly damaged by tank, shore batteries and machine gun and rifle fire. During the action he was wounded and took about 2 years to return to service. This is believed to be one of the few occasions when Royal Navy ships were engaged by tanks of the 2nd Panzer Division.
He finally retired after 27 years service.
