Grand Dad served in Hitlers General staff

Post by Big Tanks of America »

He died in the early sixties, denied a promotion 2 times to avoid signing death penalties.
I did inherit his medals and promotional documents signed by Adolf Hitler who promoted his general staff himself only after his assassination in 1944.

I have an oil painting of him in uniform, too.

My other grand dad was imprisoned by the nazis in 1936 because he was a member of the communist party then. He died there shortly after, we are not sure if tortured to death by the nazis or committed suicide not to reveal names.

Someone wrote a book about him recently because he also was a local artist in Wiesbaden, Germany. I have some of his art.

Hans

You are very lucky to have any of his medals and paperwork from that time.
The allied soldiers were so adamant about collecting souvenirs or destroying paperwork. But the fact that he served on Hitlers General staff is really an amazing piece of history that should be passed on. It is also sad that your other grandfather didn't survive the Nazis, but that he was a noted Artist and that you have some of his art work is his legassey and he lives on thru it.
