Hi Mr tankme,
Thx for your interest.
You are right, if it aint broke why try to fix it, its good enough for 130mph motorcycles it will sure do for a snail pace model :haha: .
A couple of pics of the central road wheels whilst drilling out the 6 hole PCD.
And one adding some bracing making it look for scale like.

I may turn up some more central road wheels in the lathe that are more accurate to the real thing at a later date but these will do for now.

Hi Mr Tiger 6.
Thx for your intetest, its coming along nicely now, here is a pic of the basic front sub frame and axle fitted together and temporarily mated to the rear tracked chassis.
Its important to get the correct weight balance over the front wheels so they can steer correctly, i weighted the rear track suspension down when making the front sub frame to ensure this when the model is completed with all the body work and electronics etc inside before temporarily fastening the two sub frames together.

Ah now we can see how your imagination is bringing it together. A great plan.

I sometimes think that RC half-tracks seem to 'push' in an unrealistic way when turning corners. Real half-tracks must have a lot of weight over the front axle? Something to think about.

Hi folks,
thx for your interest. And comments
It is a pet hate of mine when i see model halftracks trying to turn and it just goes straight forwards ploughing the front wheels in, its not really down to not having a lot of weight on the wheels, although you do need some for grip, it is down to the fact that both tracks are turning at the same rate instead of the inner track slowing in proportion to the steering angle, much like a differential does on a car when turning.thats how the real ones turn by braking the inner track slowing it.

Mine will have a diy TCB with software that links the steering to the track speeds thus allowing for correct realistic movements, thats the master plan any way.

Hi,
Thx for your continued interest.
The main mechanical work on the chassis is now complete other than just finishing up.
So onto the body, i decided that it would all be made in one piece so i could lift it off of the chassis complete to gain maximun access, it is made from 60 and 40 thou styrene card, the body is indexed onto the chassis in various places holding it on without any need for screws etc.
A few pic.

Already an immersive and innovative thread:thumbup: That was a very neat bit of work; grafting a front section onto a 1/16 tank chassis.
