Painting and weathering HUGE 1:6 Maybach Panzer engines
After long time I picked up painting and weathering again!
A friend commissioned me to work on two engines:
One top half to show under the engine hatch:
The small ones are 1:16 btw
But also the "piece the resistance", a fullsize engine to ride on top of his Armortek Bergepather!
These are resin printed, large and heavy beasts. They break easily.
Finding pictures showing the right colors for the part was quite hard. Best I could find was of a model...

1:16 was my scale. Until 'Konan' came into my life... an Armortek 1:6 Tiger 1!
... Now followed by a Panther G, 'Gunther'!

Just to see how the resin would react I sprayed the air filters with a primer first.
After some shading.
Some weathering
Would be nice for my own Panther too!

Oh, the opportunities 1/6 size offers! This will be an unique thread to follow. I am already impressed.
You noted that "finding pictures showing the right colors...was quite hard." It looks as if you might already have checked with WilliCapri to see what he knows, as he makes the 1/16 Maybach engines. I wonder why the air-cleaner assembly was Elfenbein and not Dunkelgrau or, later, maybe Dunkelgelb. It would seem to me that the air cleaners would most likely be visible to Allied fighter/bombers; whereas, the rest of the engine would be hidden. But, then, what makes sense to me often does not make sense to others.
I am amused to see each valve cover cast so as to indicate on which side of the engine it belongs. Nein, du dummer Esel! Rechts! Nicht links!

Oh wow, that is some models to be working on.
I shall be following your progress.
I think I may have taken a screen shot on this forum of the following picture, if not, I have no idea where I copied it from. I thought it looked rather good for a model.
Sadly, like you, I could not find a good picture of a real one. I hope it gives you inspiration.

Beautiful work. Are you planning to drop one into your Armortek Tiger, then? Sorry, I can't write the 'Term- 'Armortek Tiger 1' without envious thoughts looming....
