Scratch build Tiger 2 Part 1

This section is for builds that are not strictly Tamiya or Heng Long. For instance, replacing the electronics from a WSN or Matorro, or even a scratch-build.

Yes MIck at one stage I was going to make my own.
I bought already bigger motors and made some gears. But when the 5:1 Taigen gear boxes came on the market I dropped my project, hoping it would satisfy my needs.
Having a big project like this one, all those many parts not to mention that I had to make some parts three times till I was happy with them.
To mind comes the tank jack which needed three attempts. I will post some pictures of it.
So my heart was not very much in making my own gear boxes.
But since the project is finished now I may start it up again.

I was going to adopt the gear boxes that I had an looked for ready made gears.
Shaft, gear sizes number of teeth and modul became a problem.
Also the wear factor on small bevel gears is not so good.
All up Mick it is a mine field. But there is always a way, just finding it.

Son of a gun-ner wrote:I'm thinking like this.
Making an adaptor to turn the motors 90 degrees between the gearboxes.
Using two bevel gears the same size wouldn't change the final gear ratio much. And wouldn't change it at all if they had the same number of teeth as the pinion. Although, having a bigger bevel gear on the pinion shaft than the one on the motor shaft would raise the final gear ratio at the sprocket, giving lower speed and higher torque.
And therefore raising the adaptability of standard gear boxes.
Also, you never know, if this idea worked, people may want to buy them from you ;)

I hope my sketches make sense.

Mick.
I did a similar design, it is not reliable. The speed of the motors is very high, the bevel gears are not designed for such high speeds. We must first reduce the speed, and then apply torque to the conical gear.

Later I refused this design.

Hi Mick a very good sketch and a very good idea. Finding the right gears it could work.
There mite be hope yet.
Thanks again .

Kosyanchik has displayed a very good design and execution.
The one problem in tanks is there is not much space inside. By adding that extra length plus the motors would need some room.
