Good morning,
*Chuckles* It would get expensive having a couple of working 1/16 FAMOs to trail along with the Jagdtiger. ;o) The book is a great read, complicated and full of unit data.

Hello Gentlemen,
I know this reply/post is quite some months late, but i would like to as you all a question.
Has anyone built a Kursk version Ferdinand ? Not an Elefant.

The most available 1/16 kit would be the Arkmodel Hooben Elefant and to my eyes the changes would be:
  • 1. the front mg thicker plate area would need to be removed and new rivets replaced.
2.front headlights need to be added near the side vision slits
3.rear toolbox needs to be located to the front RHside
4.the stug cupola needs to be replaced with a double door hatch
Does this sound like a reasonable conversion, or would most tankers not realise the difference ?

Your experience and thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Regards

Good morning,
I think that most tankers would recognize the difference. One of the great benefits of wanting to make a tank more accurate is the opportunity to research (and bone up on the History surrounding the vehicle on the side). I am considering the Kursk version of this tank destroyer.

Painless.
I’m sure many here would appreciate a semi in-depth review of Ferdinand & Elephant by Anderson if and when you find time.
I’ve read a couple of online reviews that were not overly pleased with the way it was done, at $30 U.S I would need a more positive outlook before purchasing.
Thanks Larry.

Edit: guess I should pay more attention to post dates lol! :haha:

Good morning, Ragnar,
There will always be people who love or hate a thing. It all usually comes down to their personal opinions and experiences. In this case, my Elefant build is still boxed up and new, waiting to be built along with a lot of other kits and RTR tanks. The book, I really enjoyed. A window into times gone by. If the price throws you, look into finding a copy in the Library. It is worth a read.
