Cross 1/12 8x8

Post by Xiaoshan_Sailor »

Cross' newest 1/12 8x8 is calling to me. Time to start saving for one of their kits. More info on the RC Fans page - its in Chinese but easy to translate via Chrome. https://mp.weixin.qq.com/s/_p22ZbUbdLcfNcAa13h-xw

This looks great but why choose that scale to release kits in?

Because that is the scale that Cross has always favoured with the rare dip into 1/10.
I have no problem with the scale just the exorbitant price they charge when compared with H&G vehicles,
Similar quality but half the price.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Fascinating :) .
Out of curiosity, does the transmission of the real thing also include rubber bands (drive belts)?. It reminds me of a DAf automatic a friend let me 'drive' once, for its novelty value. It was all too easy to miss the 'green' option at traffic lights, as it took a week for the hapless DAF to get up a head of steam (or scorched drive belt :D ). The alloy suspension arms look very well made, I must say

All Cross models are very well made,
The period when I was at a Nato unit they had just concluded a contract with DAF to supply 200 trucks and a similar amount of extending office trailers,
The contract included all major servicing and sure enough a little Daffodill service van started coming to the unit from the DAF Factory in Eindhoven, We wondered how it would get on when the Russkies came through the Fulda Gap,
Land Rovers did not get on well in that landscape so an elastic band powered light van was not going to get far and so Northern Army Group would come to a grinding halt for the want of an elastic band :haha:
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

As a side note: for some time, Sunset Models here in the US sold limited-production O Gauge model steam engines with "rubber band" drive. I understand these engines were quiet and reliable runners. Then, too, for decades various diesel and hydraulic drives in 1:1 agricultural equipment (especially combines) have used multiple drive belts in multiple places for multiple functions. It will be interesting to hear one of these running (with the sound off). Heck, it will be interesting to see one of these running. (Subtle hint)

Old post but only just noticed it. I happen to be good friends with the UK retailer, and as a result get all of the ins and outs on the Cross RC new models, and even get to run a few of them when I visit him. We are both RC nuts.

I also run rock crawlers etc. I have no commercial interest in the models but can assure anyone who wonders about them that they are top class kits, and the investment that Cross put into the design and manufacture is second to none. The transmission on the BT8 is ingenious and very well designed. If I could afford them, I would have a few. I know several guys that have bought and built them, including the Mammoth, and they are absolute torque monsters.

Here is a quick video that I made the last time that I was visiting.
