I want to get an airbrush. After a bit of research I found the top brands and a bit of searching on Amazon I found this:

Harder & Steenbeck Ultra D sen 0,2mm+0,4mm Becher 2ml+5ml

Can any airbrush pros give their opinion please.

I want a silent compressor. How much should I budget for this?

A compressor without pressure tank is not a good idea!
The compressor will push the warm air into the hose and water will condense there.
Don't be fooled by the amount of 20-23 litres/minute, this is the amount of air sucked in, not the amount of compressed air delivered.

If it helps, my airbrush costed me 12 euros free shipping. Is one of the cheapo ones in aliexpress. I find no resson for replacing it.

Bought it like 6 years ago, so yeah, now it would be 12 euros + 20% tax + 5 eur importariff, lol. Still cheaper than the other option though.

You can just buy the compressor with air tank and regulator and water trap

Hope its of use.

this is a good find.

First of all, I most certainly agree that a compressor with a tank is far better than a small hobby compressor, for all the reasons listed and that it can be handy for other uses, such as, say filling the car tires, blowing yukky things off the windowsills, etc.

Here's where I I might be something of an outlier on this one. The Harder and Steenbeck air brush is claimed to be a "starter." The price, however, strikes me as a bit stiff. Since about 1972, I have used single action and double action air brushes, and I still favor the single action for spraying 1/16. I use an old "Binks Wren" (Binks as in JarJar Binks of Star Wars fame). The single action works fine for larger areas (as e.g. priming or doing a single-color finish coat on a tank). The single action brush, in my experience less likely to clog, less difficult to adjust correctly, but puts out heavier and larger width coats. Hence, if you are used to spray cans, the single action brush will be a bit more familiar. My experience is that an external mix, single-action brush is less expensive, good for gaining experience, and likely still to be useful 50 years later.

An internal mix, double action brush is more difficult to adjust, more apt to not get along with some paints, but great for fine spraying of light coats, as in spraying camouflage freehand.

There's my long-winded answer (as a retired professor, I have a reputation to maintain).

Because it's my first airbrush experience I was thinking of going for a branded name airbrush but these kits look good value.

Thoughts on this one? I think it's a risk with a kit because I wonder what quality they exchange to make it less expensive. Maybe I'm just being cynical lol
