First steps in customization of tanks

Post by dai phan »

Hello,

I just bought some accessories to dress up my tank. Unfortunately although 1/16 scale the sitting GI is way too big for the Sherman. Any thoughts? Dai

I think those troops are just fine size. Mine was repainted.

If I recall correctly they're Mato figures, and they are slightly larger than 1/18 figures. So should be a good match.

When I compare to the other Torro tank figures in 1/16 I thought the GI was 15% than it should be be. In fact he looks towering on my HL Sherman. Dai

What's the height of the standing figure in this picture? Six foot (1.829m) in 16th is four and a half inches (114.3mm).

One way to check what the standing height of a seated figure is, measure the height from the seat to the top of the head, then measure the height from the floor (bottom of foot) to the seat (underside of thigh behind the knee), multiply that last measurement by two, then add it to the first measurement. It's not 100% accurate because just like real people, model makers don't always get the proportions the same.

That roughly works for a figure sitting upright, but you can make allowances with educated approximate guessing to work out the height of figures sitting not so upright with the formula above

Don't forget to guess and remove boot heel thickness and the extra height gained from the helmet.

The sitting GI is way too big for the HL Sherman in my opinion. Dai
