Hiding in plain sight...
Re: Hiding in plain sight...
They might call it a Jaguar, but that's not Jaguar print. That looks more like Cheetah.
When FDR coined the phrase "The Arsenal of Democracy", he was talking about Detroit. Proud to live in the 2nd most violent city in America!!

Yes, I know it's a Leopard, Mick. But this gave me an opportunity to refer to Eartha Kitt's leopardskin outfits... Ah, but you may be too young to remember her.Son of a gun-ner wrote:Seriously? You have to wonder? It's a Leopard
Anyway, it seems to me that someone must have gone to an awful lot of trouble, just to tell us what we already know: the Gepard's based on the Leopard. I guess, it's time someone fitted some giant warts to Bovington's Cromwell

Indeed! A good find!.Afrikakorps wrote:Came across these when I was doing my wirbelwind.
I think this would be hard to spot from the air given the surrounding terrain.
Cheers

Taking camo to another level, here's a tank disguised as a truck:

Re: Hiding in plain sight...
Setting Eartha as Catwoman, and 'old fashioned Millionaires' playthings aside, I just wonderingwhat the point of having a 'Q' Tank might be- one disguised as truck, as above, that is? Unless the disguised tank in question was capable of defeating a likely enemy tank threat, (as in a Sherman vs Panther mismatch), the truck disguise would have no real value. Inflatable tanks, yes, for fooling recon aircraft...but trucks with tracks.
This got me thinking about "Q" ships. Now, they were certainly capable of giving a 'U" Boat commander an unpleasant surprise, especially in WW1. Even today, such ships are a threat, it appears.. WW1 Q ship article can be found here:
