Hiding in plain sight...

I've been vegging out on Israeli made 'Fauda' (IDF vs Hamas) series on Netflix, and kept seeing the helmet cover, or 'Mitznefet' used by the IDF.
Here it is: (do Click on pics to ENLARGE them!)

I'd often wondered what purpose it served. Helmet covers are nothing new, but this one suggested to me that soldiers must have a problem with beehives, or nasty wasps nests in the Middle East.
In the event, according to Wiki, my bee-defence cover has been shot to pieces. In reality: "....as of 1994. It is considerably larger than the helmet, with a similar appearance to a chef's hat. The purpose of the floppy helmet cover is to break up the distinctive outline of a helmeted head and thus assist in the camouflage of the wearer..."
So, not a camouflaged chef's hat for the IDF catering corps, either. :lolno:
This got me looking at the camo theme in general. Here are a few oddities I discovered, and they may be of use for novel diorama setups, or unusual tank camo profiles. Do feel free to add any others.

Here's a Leopard that looks like it had just taken out Becher's Brook, at Aintree. For those unfamiliar with the Grand National, it's an ancient Steeplechase horse race run annually since 1839, over mountainous fences composed mostly of fir branches. It was cancelled this year because of Covid. Normally, only a War will prevent it from being staged. :problem:

Here's a well-disguised jet:

Here's a moss-covered tank. Apart from the disguise element, it has been found that APC shells stop just short of the tank, to laugh in disbelief. :D 8O This is a Greenpeace approved model.
as the sustainable herbs grown on it, can be used to flavour otherwise tasteless K Rations. :)

...and here's HMS Nairana in 'Dazzle' disguise (widely used in WW1), in 1918.

I'm more impressed that the gun barrel looks like a tree trunk on the moss covered tank

Thanks for sharing these gems Roy

Thanks, Mick!
Well, Estniche, it looks as if the Koreans had anticipated fighting in pea soup. 8O Mind you, if your camo wardrobe was weather and terrain dependent, it would have to be bigger than Liberace's :)

I painted my AR-15 camouflaged just for the hell of it. I’m afraid I would lose it in the woods though. Certainly not perfect but it hides better than black.

Reminds me of the covid 19 edition of Where's Wally (Where's Waldo in America).

Thanks, lads :D . Some interesting additions there. :D I can see one potential problem with the disguised rifle: in a crisis, the soldier might forget where he stashed it. 8O It could be like one of those 'I can't find my car nightmares'. In this instance, a 'Can't find my carbine' nightmare. :lolno:
I'm wondering why this German anti-aircraft unit looks like it was camouflaged for a Zoo context, and not the North Sea, or the Baltic :eh:

Either that, or the soldier with the paintbrush, had been looking at his Grandad's collection of Eartha Kitt LPs.
