Along with every other forum on the planet, we as a forum get occasional attacks from Spam bots etc. There isn't a huge amount that can be done to prevent this, as the bots are actually quite clever at getting around any measures that a forum puts in place.
With this in mind, and to avoid causing too much inconvenience to those genuine RC tankers who join the forum a new 'New Member process' has been put in place.
When a new profile is created, the automated welcome email will now include a paragraph requesting that the first thing that they do is add a post in Introduce Yourself. This has to be done within 48 hours, and preferably immediately.
A spam bot won't be able to do that.
Any profile that is created but which does not have an Introduce Yourself post will be deleted.
We are also going through the thousands of profiles and looking at those that have never posted anything. These will be cleared out too. The Mods will use discretion, we are not intending to blanket delete all of them. Some Spam bots create dummy profiles months in advance and then use that profile to post spam at a later date.
This will not prevent a spammer from creating a profile and immediately posting spam, but hopefully it will cut down the opportunities available to them.
Apologies if this causes anyone any grief, this isn't our intention, but we do need to do whatever we can to keep the nasty stuff off the forum.
Many thanks for your understanding.
