My StuG III
My StuG III
Been busy the last weeks rebuilding/modifying my Taigen StuG III.
It has a metal lower hull.
Added Ostketten, made the hangers for the Schuerzen out of brass, made some stuff on the rear deck, modified the crew.......
Next thing to do is weathering and maybe opening up the loaders hatch.
Made 2 barrels out of 40mm drain pipe

Made 2 ammo boxes from some pieces of wood too

Re: My StuG III
The crew, these are the stock Heng Long guys, which come with most new Panzers.
Swapped the head for ones from The Sockelshop in Germany. I used the heads with the steel helmets, but they do sell all kinds of them, each face has a different expression. They do fit the size of the stock Heng Long figures well.
For other figures they might turn out to be slightly small.

Fantastic, I love the barrels
I'm glad you changed the head on that figure, reminded me of a scary ventriloquist doll, stuff of nightmares

Re: My StuG III
Great job
Im interested in the tarp over the gun you have placed so well.
What is it, how did you form it, and what paint did you use ?
How does the elevation go ?

Re: My StuG III
The tarp is jus a piece of cotton.
First, make it wet with water, squeeze most of it out. When wet you can fold it better and the folding stays a while.
When you are satisfied with your results, let it dry overnight.
Next day you mix wood glue with water and brush it slightly over the cotton. Maybe you must do this a second time after it has dried up.
When it has hardened up, you can paint it.
I used Humbrol Enamel matt green nr.253 (same as on my Panther Ausf.F) on the deck and light grey on the one over the gun.
Next you can weather it the way you like best.
Gun elevation? Do not use that, no firing too, just driving the damn things!

You can always buy those barrels.....but as you saw, easy to make 'm by yourself, same as the ammo boxes.Son of a gun-ner wrote:Fantastic, I love the barrels

Everything is already expensive enough these days.
On both My Ostfront Tigers, I have barrels I bought. And yes, they do look better, more detailed with words like "Wehrmacht Benzin Fass 200L"and so.
But on my StuG they are covered by the tarpulin, so you don't see much of 'm anyway.
Saved me some €€€ and much fun to make both the barrels and ammo boxes.
Re: My StuG III
Made a little change on the StuG this morning.
Fortunately I finally found 2 Balkenkreuzen in the box from the Ausf.F, to put them onto the Schuerzen.
And besides that, i thought the no.18 was a bit too "obvious" on the StuG. Red/White looks good on grey Panzers, but it did not fit the color scheme of my StuG.
So I added different tactical numbers out of the "F" box too
