Nice tries! The round part on the rear is s air brush compressed air can regulator top, the chain is a chain (!), the cap is in fact a cap that happens to fit on the screw valve (toothpaste top maybe), the filler on the top is a hacked about servo saver, the odd pipes and hand wheels are from my bits box and the walkway tread is from a panzer 3. The fuel/water hose coiled up on the under tray is an airbrush line. The wheels are from a Mamod log trailer. All rest is raw materials crafted (bodged) to suit.

When GJ goes scratch building, nothing not bolted down is safe!

Nice work. I love repurposing bits to make my models. Really nice mix of bits and the trailer looks great. With a little imagination you can pull of some real cool upcycling :)

And what's this at Bangood for 60 odd quid? States 1/12 but looks like the same HL/WPL shell with taller wheels. And, what's that large rectangular box just behind the front diff? Could it be an upgraded motor/gearbox? All these questions! No answers......:(

The 6x6 Zil is back to £28 and The 6x6 US truck low 30s. All depends on your VIP class too. I can't keep up with all this - when will HL bring out a T34/76? Either type would do. But NOT with a rear wing and wide wheels. This model is a WLToys branded example. That's HL's uncle Woo at WPL's mother in laws husband's company. We need some Taigen JS-2 sanity to discuss and quick.Image

I think l may have stumbled across the answer to 'just what model is this?'

If you Google Zil or Zis 150, up comes lots of images of the truck we are talking about - right grill, right wheel arches. Mind you, there are still a few variations but that's maybe just Russian assembly plants, or western lack of correct labelling!

On the face of it, this saves us the need to carry out corrective surgery but it was fun making the mods (still valid as a 157).

So.....what was being used in 1944/5? Any offers?Image

Zis 150 for 4x2, however produced after the war. The Zis 5 was operational in the war which the Zis 150 replaces
Zis 151 for 6x4. Replaces Zis 6 truck.

There was also a Zis halftrack truck, is that next?
That would be cool.build. Need to take a rear axle and let the tracks pivot in the axle. Then chain drive to the front sprocket. Although for ease I would.use a small.pitch belt

Ahhh! Two axles, l must have still been half asleep. But the 151 has different wheel arches and grille. So we need to mod the rear cab window, the grille and the wheel arches - or chop off the rear axle! If it were easy it would be no fun.

The front bumper should be a simple, rectangular bar, no curves or sculptured shapes. At least that's easy to fix and, since there's no F1 this weekend, should be sorted this afternoon.

Guys...

From what I have heard from Chinese modelers, this truck is in fact modeled after the Chinese copy of the ZIL-150 - FAW Jiefang CA10 (????CA10), the most popular Chinese truck for over 2 decades. The 3-axles version is called CA30. The 2-axles version is far more common though.

It is not a carbon-copy of the ZIL which might explain the difference in details. Due to technological constraints, early CA10 had inferior performance to the ZIL with a lower hp and top speed. Nevertheless it was mass produced for a straight 30 years (1956-1986) and was often the only automobile available in rural China.

It was apparently important enough to be featured on the 1 cent RMB note.

Most interesting, as you say, this would explain a lot! One thing l have found, compared to the cheap sealed can motor supplied in the HL/WPL offerings, this motor seems to have better torque and/or the better aligned differentials make for better low speed pulling / climbing abilities. This only applies AFTER the substandard esc is replaced!
