Battery terminal problem

I decided to have a play with my Taigen T34 today and was horrified to find that I'd left the AA's in the radio set. Luckily only one of the cells has leaked but it has toasted the terminal that it was next to. I neutralised the acid then tried to clean it up but before it would conduct the power it disintegrated on me. Have any of you managed to overcome such a problem please ?

I've had this in other battery powered items long in the past, I've made new connections out of tin cans etc, not ali ones. Plus if it's the connector with the spring, can always cut any old spring to size, failing that, make a spring clip with part of the tin can

Thanks for your suggestion and taking the time to reply to my sos. Once I'd stopped crying I managed to wrap the remains of the terminal in baco foil - despite the big hole in it, it is at least working for now. I am still pig sick about it so I'll try and get a genuine replacement part and failing that I will make one. Your suggestion of using part of a drinks tin is a clever one - thank you. Your useful tip about removing the batteries is relevant. I've decided to keep the tank where I can see it from now on then it wont be forgotten. I had a girlfriend who insisted on doing some tidying and in a fit of panic my T34 was stashed in the back of a cupboard that I never use! :D

Any old broken battery toys etc, handy to take out the battery clips and adapt them before it's thrown out, they're not too dissimilar.

I'll make you a horder of the "might come in handy one day" essentials :haha:

Edit, talking of throwing out old toys, check them for their self tapping screws, little self tappers are ALWAYS handy.
What you said about salvaging parts made me think. Outside I have a pile of stuff ready to go off to the tip and amongst it was a Guitar Hero guitar - I have now robbed one of the clips out of that. With a few kisses from an angle grinder and a couple of tweaks from the pliers it is a perfect replacement! Thank you so much for taking the time to share a bit of knowledge with me. I will collect any small bits from now on for such emergencies and I'm sure the law of Mr Sod will shine upon me for doing it. :D

Yep - I've got the little screws out of it as well! I will be less likely to get caught out like that again in the future 8)

Just as well you did - the response from the Taigen page on FB (my request was made via PM) and using the contact form on the Taigen web site (USA) has been.......ZILCH!

It's probably a contractual thing but it does cheese me off when there is no help after the sale. I must do more with my tanks and now that I have one up and running I aim to.
