Challenger 2

Post by Woz »

Just got my Chally so some quick pics and thoughts-

I like the way they are packaged compared to their older stuff

Lots of separate parts to add on-

This is my first modern tank and it is huge-

The wheel rim and tyres do look too thin at 3mm. The Trumpeter 1/35 rim and tyres are 1.7mm which scales up to 3.7mm.

The battery and charger-
The new charger is like a phone charger, it has a LED to show when it's charging and charged Green/Red.
I plugged mine in and it was charged in 5 mins so the battery came almost fully charged.

Hey Woz, thanks for posting pics of the accessories. My tank came with them installed already and I wanted to know what the tank was supposed to come with. I never got the instructions with mine so this helps out tons!

+1 wot deathrawt said. I see it doesn't have the Lion Rampart and other markings specific only to 11B of Scots DG. Guess I'll be making decals for that then. :)

Found some time to give it a run about. After 20mins on carpet over ramps, bumps and other obstacles the tracks stayed on and nothing fell off or broke. It looks pretty solid.

Out of the box it is great but for upgrades I think it could do with going a bit faster and the turret is painfully slow for a MBT.

Looks like I'm going to go with the 7th Armoured Brigade to follow from my 7th Armoured Division Firefly

The slow turret is common to all the mbt tanks by heng long, extra large turret gear = slow turn.

I normally swap to 360 servo for improved speed.

Yes I hadn't really noticed it with all the WWII stuff but it's just so wrong on a modern tank.

Another trick is to swap the turret gearbox motor with one from an airsoft unit. Not quite scale speed but improvement.

What Ian said, it works really well. I have posted this example of a ZTZ I used to have before, but I'll post it again just in case anyone wants to see the difference, it's a quick and easy cure if you have an old airsoft unit lying about. Makes you wonder why HL don't do it as standard?

I am wondering if the slow speed of the turret is because the Abram's has the 360 turret, perhaps they had problems with a 360 turret on the Challenger2 tearing out the turret wiring with a fast motor, so in the end decided not to fit the 360 turret ring but forgot about putting the old faster motor on the turret. just a thought.

I think I am about to upset someone :haha:
