Redcat and Mabuchi 390 motors

Post by jrbbikerx »

Picked these up and ordered pinions from eBay (10t).

Has anyone used either of these 390 motor set ups instead of the HL/Takes gen red can and black cabs?

Yes, motor the pinion shaft diameter is the exact same

Never use it. How much does it cost and what's the spinning speed?

Since all RC tanks move too fast as standard, we need high torque/low rev motors. This means high turns of the armature, higher the better. For 540 size motors l can quote you chapter and verse but these smaller cheap motors don't give much away.

Higher ratio gearboxes are another route to try but, ironically, these often cone with lower turn motors! Maybe the distributors know and could help.

Better speed controllers would help too. I'm not sure where in a HengLong receiver/controller box you could pick up the speed controller signals to allow you to use other ESCs, or even If the signals are compatible.

It's a frustrating aspect of 1/16 scale RC tanks (though different boards would doubtless overcome this) but, then again, when you watch videos of IR tank battles it appears that 'racing tanks' are the way to go!!!

What he said ^

High turn motors pull less power, and are less likely to stall, so less likely to blow esc's etc.

Low turn motors pull high power, run hotter, rev faster etc. They are better suited to RC race cars.

I have run Permax 480's on an RX18, it never blew up. :D

Beware of Chinese motors that claim a high number of turns, I run rock crawlers and a 55T 540 motor from China runs as fast as a 20-25T 540 motor??

This buggy has a 55T motor and should be going at a walking pace flat out... 8O
