Hi All. I am a complete newbie to RC Tanks having just bought my son a Heng Long Sherman. We have been given an old Tiger 1 that has been in a container for at least 5 years! It came with no battery. I connected the battery from the Sherman and the lights flash but no other signs of life. The controller looks like it may have something missing from the channel selector. Hoping for a quick solution before I take it apart. I will try and post some pictures. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Your Tiger is missing its radio crystals. Hopefully somebody here has some knocking about - they are specific to Heng Long, so you can't just fit any old 27MHz set.

may still have some Crystals left in the back of a drawer they are paired ie-2-2 7-7 etc, Ask him but not before you give his site a good once over.In the mean time your Tiger is one of the very early tanks that Heng Long made and yours has some of the faults that helped to trigger the forming of this Forum,
People getting collectively fed up with its faults needed a place to go for answers and so here we are :haha:
The main gun mantlet is the wrong way round (The MG should be on the left and the Gunners bino sight on the right) The Cupola is in the wrong position,The Hatch should be at the 20 to 8 position with a vision slit straight ahead, Push a pen knife blade through a vision slit and gently I SAID GENTLY lift do the same with a couple of other vision slits what you are actualy doing is breaking the glue seal you should hear a crackle, lift off the cupola, you will see an indent on the turret base and a knob on the base of the recently removed cupola, Heng Long got those 2 wrong so file off the knob and you can then place the cupola in its correct position loose or glue it.
There is more too do and most of it is very easy and takes a few minutes using the most basic tools.

I agree with jarndice that your least expensive choice would be if Dave at Forgebear has some old crystal sets. But if all else fails, and you are willing to pay the shipping to UK, I bought some sets a long time ago, and I doubt I would use them now.

Thanks for all replies so far. So if I buy a new set of crystals are they just plug and play?

Yes, one is marked TX (transmitter) the other RX (receiver). As long as the crystals match numbers and nothing else is broke, it should work just fine (for very old electronics). The Sherman will be much smoother to operate than the the old systems.

Crystals ordered. Are the batteries all the same for these models?
