IBU3 Sound Issues

Post by B_Man »

I'm currently playing around with the sound configuration on my IBU3 (thanks again for the great sound files Tao) and I'm not having a great experience with my speaker. Full volume isn't what I would call loud and there is a lot of distortion present. When I turn it back to a level that cuts out the distortion it's not loud enough to be heard over the running sounds of the tank. I'm using a visaton FRS8-8 and I'm guessing it might not be a great match for the IBU3 amp. Before I make any purchases would an FRS8-4 be a better option or is there another recommended speaker for the IBU3 around that size?

Not versed with IBU but lot of people here are. Regarding the speaker the FRS 8 can handle a steady 30 watts and max of 50W so just
off the top of my head it sounds like some connection issue but not due to the FRS8 itself either 4 or 8 ohms. But I am sure the IBU folks will
have it sorted out shortly!

The visaton speakers are good quality so cannot see that been a problem. I use 4 ohm speakers, never tried 8 ohm.

A quick test is confirm if the sound sample or hardware is the cause is to delete all the sound files, load back some of the available sounds from IBU or my website. If problem goes away issue is the sound samples you had been using if problem still exist then hardware is the cause.

Thanks for the replies gents.

Tom - the FRS8-8 ohm is in at the moment.

Max - You might have hit the nail on the head there, it is the revup that is displaying the most distortion. I'm not overly familiar with audacity but I have an ICT background so quite happy to play around with unfamiliar software. Just out of interest, what speakers do you use?

Ian - I have tried another speaker (salvaged from a set of PC speakers so no idea on the specs) and it has the same distortion levels and is quieter than the visaton. I'll try audacity and a few other sounds and report back. Other than this sound issue it has been very easy to get running so far.

I use the 'rctank.de' medium ( I belive it was ) speaker , just could not find atm at his site
viaston speaker for sure

I also found some disortion on the revup sample if I was to eager With boosting the db/bass Level when making ' revup'soundfiles . It's becasuse ( I think) it play's also the idle sounds in the background at the same time when you do revup

That makes sense. Do you have any experience with modifying .ibu sound files in audacity. I can import them as raw files but not sure what the setting need to be for them to play properly?

You can't edit the .ibu sounds because encrypted so cannot be used by other manufacturers.

What sounds do you need I might have some available from my collection which are in .wav format so you can edit.
