Blame Crispy for this one, he sent me the link to ebay.
Wanted to do this for a while, this is the Tamiya XR311 also known as the GI Hot Rod. This was an experimental fast attack prototype that was the beginning of the range of Airportable recon vehicles such as the FAV ( Fast Attack vehicle, Light strike and eventually the Humvee) Interestingly Lamborgini tried to muscle into the act and copied the chassis and called it the Cheetah, only to fail in the contact bid and get their arses sued by the designer of the XR311 in the process.
This is what it should end up looking like...
Anyway this is a 70's original with really odd and very unreliable torsion bar suspension which always snapped. Sadly that wasnt the only thing, the whole body was snapped in two when I got it so out come the platicard....cue A team music!
Updates to follow.
Project XR
Re: Project XR
You and your projects!!
Re: Project XR
Show them the awkward rear engine deck you have to fab out of plasticard... It always lightens my day when I get an expletive filled email with a reference photo saying something like "HOW THE F'ING F AM I SUPPOSED TO MAKE THAT!"
You aint gettin me on no plane fool!
Re: Project XR
Deserves a whole new set of new bad words....
Re: Project XR
Looks very nice! I'll bet it was a lot more complicated that it first appears with all those funky angles.

Re: Project XR
Showing off your scratch building!
Re: Project XR
Roll bars done, now for the .50 cal ring mount.
And then I can work out how to hang the spare wheels off the side.....

Re: Project XR
OK, progress.
Spare wheel now hung. I did originally have two, both mounted either side of the roll bar but it made it look like Princess Leia from Star wars....you got a mental image right ?
And the .50 cal gun ring. That was a right royal pain in the arse ..........
And suitable headlights thanks to the parts works magazine thats in Smiths at the moment that allows you to build an American muscle car in 24 easy installments for under circa £3 million.....
