I used The brush on and dabbed it with a piece of rough sandpaper let it dry which only took a couple of minutes then repeated got a great effect

Mr Surfacer 500 is not easy to find in the UK.
I ran out and was unable to find any in time so i made my own.

Humbrol plastic filler mixed with liquid poly makes a very good substitute.
In fact, to be honest, it looks the same, smells the same and works just the same too.

I ordered some, via ebay, from Hong Kong - £ 2.95 + £2 p&p. Had it in my hands 5 days later, was really impressed , wasn't expecting to see it for weeks.

Hi Try this if you cant get mr surface ,PVA glue and polyfiller mix to paste ,thinner(but not runny) the better dab on with a stubby brush and let it dry. Then paint as normal.

cheap and easy to do give it a try on a scrap hull you will be surprised it works .

Realise this post is fairly old now, but Mr Surfacer is readily available from E Models in the UK.

Another alternative....

Being cheap and a couple hours from the nearest hobby shop, I've been using thinned down Bondo body filler. The can says to clean tools with Acetone, so I used that to thin the resin in my empty Mr Surfacer 500 bottle. I pull out what I need and mix in the hardener. I does take a bit longer to cure but it works great. A pint of Bondo will go a LONG way. I just bought the gallon can....
