New metal hull for HL Panther Ausf G

Post by jukebox »

Folks,

Treated myself to one of the new metal hulls for the Panther from RCTank.de, 149.95 EUR including metal road wheels, very nice piece of kit. So far I've added a Taigen 2.4GHz RX18, speaker, smoke unit and some metal gearboxes I had laying around, don't think these will be staying in permanently though. As I have too many builds on the go progress will be slow! Any way, I'll let the pics speak for themselves.

Jukebox........ very nice......... I am dying to get my hands on these. Will check it out. $!50 euro is not bad at all. What are you plans for the tracks ? Would the old HL tracks work on it ? Also, I noticed that the inner wheels are the usual Taigen hex screw fare (Which is very good), bit what about the outer wheels ? How are they attached to the suspension arms ? Also, how soft are the torsion bars set at and what motor/gearset are you using ?

Hi MichaelC,

I have a set of the Taigen metal tracks to put on this but don't see any reason why the HL tracks couldn't be used, the outer road wheels are held in place the same as the inner road wheels, with the small grub screw. I think the torsion bars could do with being stiffer, with the metal gearboxes in the front of the hull looks to be sitting too low to me, comparing it with pictures of the Panther at Bovington. The gear sets are just a 4-1 white metal set I had knocking about, I'm going to fit a set of the black steel gears long term, or maybe a Walterson brass gear set if I can figure a way to make them fit!

Good Morning,
That is a serious piece of kit there. The new Jadgpanther hull coming out from Taigen is basically this exact unit as well. Their Panthers and Jadgpanthers will cost more but will really be worth the money.

Painless

So, fitted a set of Walterson gears and sorted out the ride height at the front. The Walterson gears mounting plate needed a bit of modification to fit as it's meant for the Heng Long hull, and I had to remove some metal from the inside of the front glacis plate to clear the final drive shaft gears. To get the front suspension arms to sit at the right height I added a brass shim at the fixed end of the torsion bar. Also had to grind out the transmission covers as the drove shafts now sit a bit higher thanks to the additional mounting plate for the gears.

And a few more pics, sitting better now. The drive train runs nice and smooth, all the road wheels, idlers and drive sprockets lined up without any need for shims, the Taigen tracks fit nicely and the tank now weighs in at 5.6 kgs. Now waiting for MAKO2 boards to arrive from RCTanks Australia so I can finish off the wiring in the lower hull, then I need to sort out some issues with the Taigen 2.4 GHz system.

Good Afternoon,
This Panther is really coming along with the aid of those lovely components. I am stoked about getting one of these excellent hulls for the KV-1 and turning it into a KV-2.
