Just tried some colour modulation for the first time
Just tried some colour modulation for the first time
Finally plucked up the courage to try some colour modulation on my tiger 1. It looked far too bland just sprayed in dark yellow.
I mixed some Tamiya deck tan with the dark yellow to lighten it and highlighted panel areas to varying degrees to simulate fading by sunlight etc. Although nowhere in the league of the more experienced airbrush artists on this forum I am thrilled with the results so far. It suddenly 'popped into life' and now looks far more like a machine than a toy. Early days yet but so far the difference between before and after is remarkable. This is my first attempt at this kind of weathering,

Greetings CupofTea... Personally.. I like the paint job you have on that Tiger...There is something to be said about symplicity...as at times camo will hide things that you worked so hard on...when you put the rest of the details on.. it'll only highlight what you've been able to accomplish with your color fades and pin-lining
Have a good one Cupoftea

Thanks for the kind words Alpha.
i don't know why but I think Tiger 1's look somehow better without camouflage stripes. Problem was it was just too bland without the fading. I still have a lot of paintwork to do on this model and then have to sort out some decals.

cupoftea,
The difference achieved is subtle and remarkable. Your Tiger 1 has added an air of purposeful machine instead of RC toy. A Great Beginning. As with your (hopefully ongoing?) Sherman build, I will follow this one with interest.
regards,
Painless

Thanks Painless
The Sherman is ongoing. The Tiger is more of an 'as and when' type project. At the moment i am doing the tiger because the sherman has ground to a halt pending me being able to get out of the house and buy the materials i need.

Beautiful and subtle use of values and color. Kudos.
