Someone else PM'd me with exactly the same question for exactly the same reason! lol.

I have seen these running through water, so a DUKW should be possible. There is a power take off that would take a propeller shaft, so it would solve that problem without any bother.

To be doubly safe you can always fit an Mtroniks Rock esc. as they are waterproof.

Front hub centre to rear hub centre is 440mm, outside edge of tyres is 240mm. Standard 1.9" hubs fit so getting scale truck wheels that look a bit more authentic shouldn't be a problem.

To change the length of the chassis you simply either make your own rails or buy them, they sell all the bits seperately.

*****************
As regards the printer, it doesn't say where the assembly instructions are, or what electronics are used. I would be wary. It also looks like it is a plywood frame and threaded studs holding the rails in alignment. Getting all of that 100% square may be a challenge.

If they are non standard electronics, eg not an Arduino Mega 2560 with a Ramps 1.4 board, then you will be left high and dry when it comes to sorting out configuration problems (which I guarantee you will have). The Reprap printers are the best to go for, the ones on the forums as they have plenty of helpful users/designers who will be able to solve any problem that you may come across. You will always be able to get spares as well. You can pretty much assume that the vital components, eg board, and extruder, are Chinese knock off's of branded components, and that although they may look similar they may not last long or give quality output.

You can keep the price down by getting a PLA printer that doesn't need a heated bed. The one on Ebay isn't in a closed cabinet, which is what ABS really needs to keep the heat/smell in. Without it you could suffer warping. I very much doubt that the jet engine on the print bed was created using that printer, that is a bit of artistic licence, it was probably done on one costing £25k. lol.

Thanks for all the info and advice Rob, it just goes to show that there is much more to these things than meets the eye! The DUKW looks a definite future project!

Glad to be of help Alwyn, I would hate for someone to buy themselves a heap of trouble.

Latest pic of the Oshkosh, primered up. I need to airbrush it before I put the front double hull on, and the double skin for the roof, as I won't be able to get paint behind them if I do them now. I am still awaiting a new reel of filament, no idea what has happened to that... :eh:

Bit of airbrushing done, front double skin attached. Turns out the filament that I was waiting for has gone AWOL somewhere, so they refunded my loot and gave me £5 on top, so I am happy with that. The replacement roll should be here later this week, I can then print off the radiator cover and start on a few other bits and pieces. Meanwhile I can get on with the double skin for the roof.

A bit more tidying up and paint. Blooming nightmare airbrushing something this big, it is going to take a while to get it all nice and thick and even. Doing it using Vallejo Miltary Green to start with and then I'll shade it with US Green and maybe some camo. Wish the new reel of filament would hurry up and get here, I have designed the parts I need to print and just want to get one and get them done before I do the fuel tanks, mudguards etc

My filament arrived today, and after spending hours trying to print something with it came to the conclusion that it isn't proper pla. The damned stuff won't flow, no matter what the temperature is set at, I just get crystalised blobs and then it doesn't print at all, so I have emailed the vendor to see if I can return it. Will have to source some from somewhere else and hope its quality stuff next time.

The second skin for the roof is done, I brush painted the whole truck, and will airbrush it to get a uniform finish when its all dried out properly.

Windows, mudguards, and more paint done. Tyres rub on full compression, but stronger shocks/springs will resolve that problem.

Running out of things I can do without printer filament, I may have to give the weird new filament that I have another go, as otherwise I will have to order some expensive stuff, or wait till the end of Feb for usual supplier to get some back in stock.
