Scratch build US Army "Scout" Armoured recon vehicle XM800 T

Post by Sub »

Hi chaps,
As my FV430 Bulldog build is nearly over i started looking for another totally unique build that no body as far as i know has made one of these, most probably have not even seen or heard of one.
Its an armoured light tank which is capable of being air dropped has a 20mm auto cannon fully stabalised and night vision, 3 man crew.
I will be scratch building the vehicle at 1/13 scale full rc from Styrene sheet as per my bull dog.
Unfortunately the production was halted and cancelled in 1974 due to a defence review and budget cuts which was a shame as the vehicle exceeded all the specs the Army wanted at the time and the evaluation crews loved them, i think a large order was placed for them before the cuts.

There are a few about in museums and on display outside Fort Knox USA and at BAE systems.

A few pics of the basic lower hull box with suspension points added.

Cheers Sub.

Building the hull sides up with internal support, the left hull side is different to the right side but both sides eventually make up to a flat hull top for the turret base.
This build will be quite challenging as the vehicle has many sloping sides, angles and triangular sections

Hi.
Left hand hull sides added, you can see the difference here between right and left sides some thought had to go into the dimensions of each side to ensure that when fully completed and built up they provide a flat surface for the upper hull deck to fit correctly and ultimately the turret and its ring.

Nice build , very clean joints. I usually mess up the styrene glue by using the wrong paintbrush , last bottle of EMA plastic weld turned brown as the brush was not cleaned,

Hi,
Thank you Mr Ronnie for your interest.
I have only just purchased my first ever bottle of EMA glue, primarily for glueing different types of plastic, as my stock of the other glue i used has expired and i use abs among other types of plastic in my builds so needed something that would weld them all together.

My usual glue for the majority of my Styrene builds is Contacta Professional as you apply it with a needle attached and as you say you can achieve some good clean glue lines with little excess.
Thx for looking.
Regards.
