For barrel elevation in the project T34 1/6 scale I am using a small 24v motor.
Im looking for an inexpensive ESC to use, I have the sabertooth 2x32 for drive motors and it works great.
What would be recommended,

Re: Elevation ESC
One of these should do it, it has reverse as well. I power my Arduino TCB using two, and the turret motor on another.

Or you could use a 1/4 scale servo. Most of the larger 1/4 scale servos draw more power than an R/C receiver can provide so they get wired directly to a battery source.

Re: Elevation ESC
Thanks,
Ive been trying a larger servo not sure if its 1/4 so I can use Pan effect. This works great apart from the constant buzzing coming from the servo because of the weight of the barrel acting on it.
Next would be to balance the barrel/servo.
The motor works great, but cant set limits like pan effect, maybe micro switches are needed.
Any other suggestions?

Re: Elevation ESC
Hi minimivic, you mentioned using a small 24 volt motor. Are you powering it at 24 volts? If so I don't know of any cheap ESC that will work at the voltage, most of the inexpensive Chinese ESCs max out at 3S (~12volts) or sometimes only 2S. I see Hobby King has the XCar 45A ESC back in stock at least in the EU warehouse, but it is only rated at 2S (approximately 7.4 volts).
I agree a servo gives a nicer effect for the barrel elevation, if you can find a strong enough servo or balance your barrel well enough, which is no doubt more difficult at 1/6 scale.

Re: Elevation ESC
Luke,
I have 12 and 24v on board.
An elastic band works to balance the barrel buts pretty crude. I can look for a spring but its not easy to fit.

Re: Elevation ESC
Yes, that Hitec is a 1/4 scale servo. Sometimes the 1/4 scale servos work better when drawing power directly from a 5/6V source instead of the receiver. Some small receivers won't provide enough power for a 1/4 scale servo.
