A tad too much rust for my taste but I'm weird.

As to the grass problem what gearboxes are you running? My King Tiger just broke the 22lb/10kg mark and has no problems in grass. I'm running 4.1 hardened steel gearboxes with black hi-torque motors, IBU2 board, and 2 7.2 volt batteries. This thing goes ANY PLACE I want it to! I just need to re-set the motors amp setting to 15amps up from 10amps and then forget it this thing will be unstoppable!

I like the way you've done the inside, very nicely done! Did you make a metal plate for the underneath? It looks like you did.

You can still get away with light surface rust. Even very high quality steel will produce a wipe away layer of surface rust if exposed to the elements where the primer has come off. Given those fenders have to be taken off for rail transport they'd get a fair few scratches and dents, not to mention high explosives going off around them will warp them.
