Lert's modified HL PzKpfw IV Ausf. F2

Post by Lert »

As promised in my introduction thread, here some pictures of my modified Heng Long PzKpfw IV F2.

I started with the IR smoke & sound version in dunkelgelb and went from there ... It's not quite done yet, but I'm getting there:
Spoiler: show

Custom 'ambush' pattern camouflage with measles.

Image
Lower angle. Note the additional stowage.

Image
Yet another different angle.

Image
Bucket and MG-42. Every german late war tank needs a bucket and an MG-42. It's the rules.

Image
Franz Knochenbaum's jimmies remain unrustled as he enjoys his big, fat cuban.
Mods completed:

- Custom camo
- Minor battledamage / general wear
- Simple basic weathering
- Replaced plastic drive sprockets and idler wheels with third-party metal ones
- Additional stowage boxes
- Additional track links and segments
- Bucket
- Spare shells
- Spent shellcasing
- Tow cables
- Jerrycans
- Logbook + binocs + cigar for the commander figure
- Stowed MG-42
- Spare steel cable
- Additional personal luggage/ stowage added to a few spots

Still to do:

- Add two more turret figures hanging out the turret side hatches to keep Franz Knochenbaum company
- Re-do the turret number. The original HL decals were covered when I did the custom paintjob. I've borrowed balkenkreuze from another kit, but need to manually re-do the turret number when I get around to it
- Scratch-build an MG-34 mounting for the cupola and fit a third-party MG-34. I work in a steel working factory, so the raw materials for the mounting should be easy to come by.

So I guess it's about 95% complete, which is why I put it in the 'show off' section instead of 'tank builds and mods' ...

Aaaaalmost done ...

Image

Added camo net to hide one of Heng Long's Pz IV's most obvious accuracy problems, the mantlet.

Image

Close-up of camo net and loader. The camo net was made from an old piece of window lace, spraypainted, tea leaves sprinkled onto it, then some model railroad grass.

Image

Finally, freehanded a turret number. Platoon leader of first platoon in first company.

Nice blending on the colours. Like the rough stowage of gear. 8)

The spr- ....

The SPROCKETS? .... Really? The things I replaced simply because my model fell off a table once and the original plastic sprocket broke so I replaced them with aftermarket metal ones because I had to?

Alright ... Well, thanks for the compliment, I guess. :D

:{ Meant no offense Lert... they look great... I did do a double take... as those are PanzerIII sprockets ...which actually look beefier than the Panzer IV's ...I like the look... never thought of doing it to mine..I just might after seeing yours ;)

Have a good one Lert

No offense taken. :D And, yes, they are beefier. I also like the look.

Tell ya a secret. I bought Pz III sprockets because the Pz IV sprockets were sold out. You're the first one to notice. ;) Don't tell anyone else.
