Jussek's Königstiger (Torro Metal Ed.)
Jussek's Königstiger (Torro Metal Ed.)
hello,
some weeks ago i purchased the Torro Königstiger metal edition. As i was very happy with the sound quality of the Beier soundmodul I'm using in my Tiger, i also put another one in the KöTi.
This tank will be 'remodelled' like the Tiki (you can see the process here http://www.rctankwarfare.co.uk/forums/v ... 22&t=10148, it needs zimmerit on the back and on the turret, and on the lower frontal hull also, and some other changes and mods... which cat will be represented I do not know yet.
I will wait until i finish the Tiki first, buuuut, i was not able not to install the Beier and put the proper customized sounds in it , so i did the internal part of the work:
big box received from Dominique (rctank.de)
to install the Beier USM-HL and a big speaker visaton FRS7 (and a bass-reflex wooden box), some space had to be done, so like in the Tiki Tiger, I stripped all internals and made a 'waterproof' container for all the electronics and covers for the new steel gearboxes:
I've also installed an in line fuse, and moved the receiver board to the upper part of the lower hull.
to make space for the new speaker and his box, i had to move the turret traverse gearbox too:
this is the Torro track tensioner system
so, by now and until I finish off the Tiger Tiki project, this is all I have made on the Köti... well, not, I've expended a lot of hours working on the sound profile!
first, looking for real sounds, downloading vids from the net, viewing them again and again to select the better sounds, cut, edit... and then using the Beier software to them put together..
and this is the resulting profile
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... 4enpzKdZAU
note: I've not found any good source of a proper KöTi's engine in motion, so I've used those of a Panther...

Re: Jussek's Königstiger (Torro Metal Ed.)
Fantastic job on the sounds, absolutley awsome.
I take it the beier sound module will couple up to 2.4ghz rx18, and also what exactly is needed to be purchased.
Is it just beier usm hl module i would need, or is other stuff needed.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Jussek's Königstiger (Torro Metal Ed.)
thank you very much for your kind words!
related to your question, i think it's better to ask this directly on the beier forums, the Beier team speaks english, so do not worry.

Re: Jussek's Königstiger (Torro Metal Ed.)
hello again
I've been away "a little bit" of tank building making the project of my tank club's yard and construction of a lot of defensive positions. But I'm back to work a little on my cats.
two months ago i re started the works on my KöTi, so all the works and images i will put here cover this time period. And i had not finished yet.
i had to mod a lot of things and bits so i had to took it apart, unmounting all the components i considered necessary. As this model comes with half the zimmerit (only on the upper hull, not on the back shield, nor the turret or the frontal lower hull) it has to be located on the batch that was build between late August and early October, and i will decide which model features remove and hitch remain/correct (zimmerit, fuel vent lines, commander cupola welded or bolted, jack&jackblock, etc...)
first, the idlers, they were... well, full of vegetables remains, as it runs a lot on our club's area:
it was hard to take apart the sprockets, i had to do major force (with fear on my part), and then realised that the insertion on the gearbox final drive was too much tight and i have to file a bit the sprocket in order to be able to put it and to retire it with ease.
then the unmounting started:
upon striping all i considered necessary, i started the modifications
first, the ball bearing mod to reinforce the final drive
the emergency aim device, or as they used it, this was used by the commnader to guide the gunner onto target
made the hole for the MP-Stoppfen on the rear hatch, also the periscopes:
modified, with a piece of paper, the hole where the led was to make it more similar to the "Turmzielfernhor 9d" monocular telescopic gunsight
the supports for the C-Haken, and also i deleted the moulded hinges for the rear mud guards, as i will do all of them workable
As i did on my Tiki tiger project, the tow cables would be made from real steel, treated with old engine oil and flame to give them the form and colour i wanted:
the result
well, now time to the fuel vent lines... this is incorrectly build on this model from torro, as is shown two fuel vent lines, and this option never existed. There were ONE line on the right side until october'44, when the full fuel system was redesigned, so then they were FOUR lines. So, or ONE or FOUR, but never two or three.
let's 'delete' the left one:
and also work a bit the right one, as it was moulded in a very sorry way:
i was tempted on extrincate completelly the jack block and make from real wood, as i did on the Tiki, but as the main power switch is located inside, i decided to let it there, but doing some works with the hope that it looks made of wood
well next step, the side skirts...
best regards

Re: Jussek's Königstiger (Torro Metal Ed.)
second phase
the big words begun... alea iacta est!
the cutting of the side skirts, i did it with the dremel tool:
the space uncovered must be sealed with plasticard, and i used 0.5mm aluminium sheet for reinforce it on the inside and glued all with two parts epoxy (Araldit in my case)
then i did the frontal mud guards hinges:
i will left the frontal mudguards for the last step, as i see it will be difficult... so started with the rear ones:
with the flaps in:
glueing the reinforcements
first hand of primer for metal parts
now time for the side skirts. I want them to be removable, so i thought in using neodymium magnets N35, 8x3x1 mm. almost the perfect size. I put them with epoxy too
the last one should be half the size, but is very difficult to cut a magnet, so i decided to let it as it is...
and then, my first attempt ever to make zimmerit, i dod it with milliput superfine white.
i did paint the turret with red oxide primer, just in case some zimmerit goes off, but i think it was unnecessary...
more zimmerit
the weld of the commander's cupola
more to follow

time for the tow cables, track change cable, cleaning rods and cable holders
I painted the metal tools (the fire extinguisher is not of my like, maybe i will repaint it later...)

Good Afternoon,
You have done a detailed and amazing job of making a great RTR tank even better. By leaps and bounds.
