Battery advice

Post by Rangie81 »

Hi all.
I have added metal, hull and wheels to my HL Tiger but am finding standard supplied battery (7.2V 1700mAH) is not lasting very long and I think prob not supplying enough power now.
What is the next logical battery size etc that I can use or you would recommend.
I have read about LIPO batteries, can these be used?

Cheers
Mark

What kiaser said.
Get your butt to hobbyking.
You will need a Lipo charger, turnigy do a good cheap one but it doesn't come with leads so you will need a lead kit.
I would recommend the turnigy 5000mah 20c batteries. I use these myself.
You will also need to make some adaptors as lipos have different connectors to nicads/nimhs.
A charge bag.
A voltage alarm.
A balance lead extension can be useful although not essential
Available from, yes you guessed it
Hobbyking :haha:
A small effort for a big gain.
Your 10 to 30 minutes with the nicad should be 10 times better with the Lipo.
Good luck

I went with the 5800mah 2 cell lipo and smart charger from Traxxas. Got them from a local hobby shop. Plug and play no need for a balance plug as its built into the Traxxas plug. Great setup!

Actually hobbyking are not quite the bargain when you add the postage £7.00 seems quite dear for a single battery when most other suppliers are post free...just my opinion

A couple of points about Hobby-king you might like to know, The TURNIGY LI-PO/NI-CD/NI-MH charger is a very good and useful piece of kit BUT it needs a handbook to get any sense from it, You can find one on line and download it, but you will not get one if you buy your charger from Hobby-king, and secondly I had to wait weeks for my order to arrive although I have been given to understand that I was unlucky? :shifty: shaun
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

I recommended the imax B6AC duel charger although even with instructions it takes a bit of getting used to but well worth the effort, I haven't got any lipos yet but its improved the performance of My 2000mah NiMH and hugely decreased the charge time.
