Electronis fit
Hi guys, some advice please.
Forgebear supplied me with the Hooben T55a kit, it came with recoil unit, turret rotation unit, elevation unit and drive motors.
Dave suggested a Tamiya DMD/MF unit for control (MF-06 for KV-1), but what else do I need, obviously need a receiver, but which would work, and where can I get cables and connectors.
I have a 7.2v battery and charger already.
Thanks in advance

hi sudbvr just a pic of mine with tamiya dmd/mf units ,the main cable you need is the comunication cable which will plug between the two units, you can get these of ebay quite easy.

Thanks Robert.
Stupid question, the Control unit you have, does this also act as the receiver, or is that in with the MF06?

Hi Trev,
You still need to get a reciever thats compatible with your transmitter, they often come as a set
Then the 4 cables from the DMD unit plug into the reciever.
Hope that helps.

Re: Electronis fit
stupid question yes but unless you know then no, and no the receiver is not built in and you do need a seperate one, mine is in the left hand bottom corner by the side of the motors. the radio i use is the planet t5 sets which are 2.4g with self added toggel switch to help with firing the guns and turning on the lights on my tanks

Hi,
Before you put the turret together, check that your recoil unit actually works - mine didn't and I've heard this is a common complaint. You can test it very easily by connecting it to a 4.8v Rx battery or similar. It should cycle quite freely. If it doesn't then break your connection immediately before the motor burns out then strip the unit. The problem (on mine) was that the final large gear with the pin on it was not rotating at the ends of its stroke because the slot for the pin was not quite wide enough. Easily fixed with a fine file and smoothed with some wet & dry.
You might also need the gunflash strobe unit from Tamiya. Before you buy one, check that your gun barrel is fully drilled through. Some of them do not have a full bore hole right through so the cable to the flash unit won't fit. It does not matter which tank it comes from, but try to get one from a tank with a long barrel (KT, Panther or JP) because these come with longer cables.
Do NOT cut or splice this cable. It carries a very high voltage and this can be dangerous in a metal barrel.
Good luck with it. With sensible mods the T55 is a cracking good tank and I'm very pleased with mine.

Re: Electronis fit
Hi Peter, good advice.
It is working fine, must have a good one. The barrel is drilled through, though not exactly in a straight line through the centre, but to be honest, I wasn't thinking of putting in a flash unit, maybe something for later, just need to get the thing moving.
Thanks again for the advice, cant wait till its all up and running.

Re: Electronis fit
Hi Guys
Ive received the DMD T-08 and the MF-06 for the tank, next comes advice on where the wires go, specifically the recoil unit wiring?
Looking at the control unit it has a bank of wiring from the right hand side, any advice on what goes where?
Thanks in advance
